What this page covers

This page describes how unequalscenes.com, including the checkout at /checkout, handles personal data. It covers this website only, not any outside site you reach through a link, such as a payment page, a newsletter sign-up page, or an embedded video.

Hosting and server logs

This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare handles every request to the site and processes it under its own privacy policy. The site's own code does not log names, email addresses or shipping addresses.

Orders and payment

At checkout, the site collects your name, email address, phone number (optional), shipping address, the items you order, your chosen payment method, and your agreement to the terms of sale.

Card payments, bank transfers and the other payment methods in the payment form are processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered directly into Stripe's own payment form and never reach the seller's own website code or servers. If you choose PayPal, you pay on PayPal's own page. Your name, email address and shipping address are sent to Stripe, or to PayPal when you pay with PayPal.

The site's own order database stores the order number, the items ordered, the shipping cost, the total and currency, the order status, the payment method, your email address, your shipping country, and the payment provider's references for the order. It does not store your name, street address, or card details.

Emails about your order, such as the order confirmation, the bank details for a transfer, and the shipping notice, are sent through Sender (sender.net). Sender receives your email address, name, shipping address and the order details for this purpose.

To pack and ship orders, the seller keeps a list of orders in a Google Sheets spreadsheet. It holds the order number, the items, your name, shipping address and email address, the payment status, and the shipping details.

Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require.

Bot protection

The checkout uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people apart from automated bots. Turnstile runs a check in your browser before an order can be submitted.

Country detection at checkout

The checkout preselects the country field using the country Cloudflare reports for your request. You can change it. This detected country is used only to preselect the field; the price and shipping cost are always calculated from the country you enter in the order.

Storage in your browser

The checkout page stores one small piece of information in your browser, using its own storage, not cookies: "uschk-return," in session storage, which is cleared when your browser tab is closed. It holds an order attempt reference and a payment reference, used to check the result of a payment after you return from the payment provider's page. It does not hold your name, email address, shipping address, or card details.

Stripe's payment form, which loads on the checkout, collects information about your device and how the form is used to prevent fraud, and may set its own cookies for this. Stripe's own privacy and cookie policies apply.

Statistics

This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser and does not identify individual visitors. It counts page views, the page a visit came from, and general details such as browser type, country and how fast the page loaded.

It runs only on the site's own address, unequalscenes.com, not in local previews or test environments, and not on the checkout page.

Newsletter

Some pages link to a newsletter sign-up page hosted by MailerLite. Clicking the link takes you to MailerLite's own site, where MailerLite's own privacy practices apply.

Embedded content

Some pages may include embedded content from outside sites: YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, Google Docs and Forms, Google Maps, Spotify, SoundCloud, Flourish, Datawrapper, and ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as Johnny Miller's own Unequal World sites. When a page includes this kind of content, loading the page may let that outside site set its own cookies or collect its own data, under its own privacy policy.

Contact by email

If you write to [email protected], the site uses your message and email address only to answer you.

Legal bases

Where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation applies, order data is used to carry out your purchase (Article 6(1)(b)) and kept as long as tax and accounting rules require (Article 6(1)(c)). Replies to your emails rest on the seller's legitimate interest in answering you (Article 6(1)(f)).

Site statistics rest on the seller's legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used (Article 6(1)(f)).

Transfers to countries outside the European Union

Several services named on this page, such as Cloudflare, Stripe, PayPal and Google, are based in the United States, so your data may be processed there.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive a copy of it in a portable format. You may also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority.

If you live in the EU or the UK, you can complain to the data protection authority of the country where you live.

To exercise any of these rights, contact [email protected].
